NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) made a second visit to Kansas Speedway for the 2015 season this weekend. Jamie McMurray’s No. 1 Chevrolet SS carried a new look for the Hollywood Casino 400 with a unique paint scheme for Halo 5: Guardians, the highly anticipated release of the newest game in the Halo franchise for Xbox One. The Spartan Locke themed Chevy started 28th and finished with a 20th-place result.

The No. 1 Halo 5 Spartan Locke Chevy had a disappointing qualifying result on Friday afternoon at Kansas Speedway, but crew chief Matt McCall felt that the team found some needed speed during final practice on Saturday. With track-position at a premium, McMurray would work hard during the 269-lap race to improve on his 28th starting position. Unfortunately, the No. 1 Chevy made contact with the wall on a couple of occasions after running through oil that was left on the race track from an early incident. The No. 1 team was forced to surrender some track-positon on ensuing pit stops to repair cosmetic damage, however recovered enough to capture a top-20 finish.

With his finish, McMurray remains 11th in the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup standings.

CGRFS Quote board:

Jamie McMurray – No. 1 Halo 5 Spartan Locke Chevrolet SS: – “A tough day for our Halo 5 Chevy today. The guys did a good job trying to work on the balance of the car. The car was tight throughout most of the day. After one of the early incidents with another car, there was a lot of oil on the top of turns one and two that the clean-up crews may have missed. I got into that oil and hit then hit it again two more times. Matt and the pit crew did a good job of trying to make repairs under caution without losing more ground. On the final restart I made contact with another car and lost a couple of spots again. Just a tough day all around for our team.”

NSCS teams will run the Campingworld.com 500 at Talladega Superspeedway next Sunday, Oct. 25. NBC Sports Network, Sirius XM NASCAR Channel 90 and MRN Radio will have live coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
