The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) made stop No. 20 on the 2015 season at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) for the 22nd running of the Crown Royal Presents the Jeff Kyle 400 at the Brickyard. Jamie McMurray and the McDonald’s/Cessna team looked to capitalize on a strong top-10 qualifying effort from Saturday afternoon. After working through handling challenges most of the day McMurray raced to the finish on a green-white-checkered attempt to a 16th-place result.

The NSCS team entered the weekend at IMS with an extended day of practice on Friday to test a new aero configuration that was put in place for this race. The No. 1 team had a car that was among the fastest in longer race-trim runs, during those practices. When the green flag dropped on Sunday’s race however, McMurray was challenged with a car that was extremely loose in traffic and tight in clean air with the new aero configuration. Crew chief Matt McCall and crew adjusted on the No. 1 Chevy throughout the day to help McMurray. On the final restart of the day, McMurray was able to gain a few positions and capture a 16th-place finish.

With his finish, McMurray remains in ninth-place in the NSCS point standings.

NOTES OF INTEREST

• This was McMurray’s eighth consecutive race finishing on the lead lap in the Brickyard 400
• The Brickyard 400 was slowed by caution nine times for 36 laps

CGRFS Quote board:

Jamie McMurray – No. 1 McDonald’s/Cessna Chevrolet SS: – “The McDonald’s/Cessna Chevy was loose most of the day in traffic and tight when we were able to get in clean air. Not really the finish that we hoped for in the Brickyard 400, but we still had a decent day in the points.”

NSCS teams will run the Windows 10 400 at Pocono Raceway Sunday, Aug. 2. NBC Sports Network, Sirius XM NASCAR Channel 90 and MRN Radio will have live coverage at 1:30 p.m. ET.
