No. 1 McDonald’s Chevrolet SS

Jamie McMurray and the No. 1 Ganassi Racing team head to Southern California ranked eighth in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series point standings, the highest they have been ranked leading into this race since 2010. In 21 previous starts at Auto Club Speedway, McMurray has recorded three top-five and seven top-10 finishes; led 57 laps; completed 4,692 of 4,854 (96.7%) total laps, and has never failed to finish.

McMurray’s Chevrolet will feature the McDonald’s All American Games on the hood this weekend–a nod to the annual high school basketball classic that celebrates its 40th anniversary on Wednesday, March 29 at the United Center in Chicago. Airing on ESPN, the game features the top high school basketball players (boys and girls) in the nation.

“It’s interesting because it seemed like it was a boring race,” said McMurray. “Then it seems like four or five years ago all of a sudden, the track didn’t really change much and the tires didn’t change much, but it’s just like the races got really good.  A lot of it came because the cautions were falling at the right time.  That was always kind of a fuel mileage race, which sometimes those are exciting, but most of the time they are not.  But the cautions have fallen right the last few years and tires make such a difference.  It has been a great track.”
